Despair

The Sunken House

A neighborhood sits under a bright sky, but one house has slowly sunk halfway into the earth.

The residents continue their normal lives inside. They drink coffee underwater, climb staircases that descend instead of rise, and look out windows that face dirt.

Depression is not represented by sadness but by gravity becoming stronger around one life than everyone else's.

                                                                     The Black Hole Garden

A gardener carefully waters flowers growing around a tiny black hole.

The flowers closest to it bend inward.

Birds disappear into it.

Entire trees slowly curve toward it.

The gardener works desperately, but everything is subtly being pulled toward absence.

The Museum of Extinguished Futures

Long hallways filled with exhibits labeled:

  • The Novel Never Written
  • The Friend Never Called
  • The Journey Never Taken
  • The Person You Might Have Become

Visitors wander silently through glass cases containing unrealized possibilities.

Depression appears as a curator preserving what never happened.

Fear

The Chessboard of Catastrophes

Every square on a chessboard contains a different disaster scenario.

The player studies millions of future moves.

Meanwhile their opponent hasn't even taken a turn.

Anxiety as exhaustive preparation for hypothetical realities.

The Cathedral of Alarms

Thousands of clocks, warning lights, sirens, smoke detectors, and emergency signals fill a vast cathedral.

None of them indicate a real danger.

Yet every alarm is technically possible.

The anxious person kneels at the center, trying to determine which warning matters.

Balloon Keeper

Thousands of balloons drift overhead.

Each balloon carries a potential concern:

  • Tomorrow's conversation
  • A strange symptom
  • A text message
  • A financial worry

The person desperately grips every string simultaneously.

The tragedy isn't that the balloons exist but that none are allowed to float away.
