Generations of French people were exposed to pedagogy aimed specifically at habituating them to racism. It was founded essentially on the principle that the relationship to Blacks must be a relationship of nonreciprocity. Nonreciprocity was justified by the qualitative difference between the races, a thematic that was inseparable from older ideas of blood that had been used to justify the privileges of the nobility and that were now redeployed by the colonial project.
