"I wanted to reclaim a version of “my” “self,” rewritten into a version of the world that accounted for why I felt detached from it in the first place (as if she were in a dream). I felt around for my body (detached from her entire being) and, upon finding that it was both in pieces and missing pieces, and that it had already been laid claim to by institutions without my permission, I flailed like a bird trapped in a room.
