"Class is the connecting thread between all oppressions. The separation of subjects, particularly of history, politics, and economics, has deeply fractured the political consciousness of people in the Global North (in particular, not only). This is a direct and intentional consequence of the Cold War period. I would recommend The Black Jacobins by CLR James to gain a comprehensive understanding of the political and economic nuances of the transatlantic slave trade in an exhaustive historical account of the Haitian Revolution in San Domingo. It is a great starting point to understanding how capitalism manifests, in one of its most glaringly horrific forms, and what the stakes are for the ruling class in maintaining the social order and domination of the masses. It's unfortunately a commonly held belief that the transatlantic slave trade happened because Europeans were naturally racist and viewed black Africans as inferior - but that is a result of suppressed information of what the European masses (who were poor) thought of slavery. Racist intellectuals of all kinds were propped up by the state in order to justify and legitimize slavery to the masses, while the brutality of the slave trade was also suppressed.
Slavery's justification is not slavery's reason, patriarchy's justification is not patriarchy's reason, poverty's justification is not poverty's reason. Similarly, Ableism is one of the most powerful tools of the ruling class, largely because it can be manipulated and wielded against any individual or group of people''.
